Hand Rejuvenation

Hand rejuvenation can substantially improve the appearance of the hands. GK Dermatology offers Weymouth MA hand rejuvenation.

South Shore MA Methods of Hand Rejuvenation

Hand rejuvenation can be achieved via several different procedures, such as fillers, chemical peeling, laser or intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, and fat transfer. Radiesse is a filler that is used to correct wrinkles and plump up areas of thinning skin. It is a very effective volumizing filler for the hands. Chemical peels and IPL help improve the texture of the hands; they also help with sun damage and efficiently eliminate brown spots. Fractional lasers (ablative or nonablative) enhance texture, eliminate sun damage and induce new collagen, an important aid in hand rejuvenation. In the fat transfer procedure, the surgeon takes fat from one area of the body and injects it into another to boost up the volume.

Preparation For Hand Rejuvenation

You should avoid blood thinners for procedures that involve injections, such as fillers and fat transfer. You should not use any medications that cause photosensitivity for at least 5 days prior to laser or IPL treatment. Avoid sun tanning or sunless tanning products for at least 4 to 6 weeks before laser or IPL treatments and during treatment sessions. The treatment areas must be free of any open sores, lesions, or skin infections.

What To expect During And After Treatment

Fillers such as Radiesse are often mixed with anesthetic in order to improve discomfort. Bruising is minimized by injecting the filling substance with a cannula. The physical sensation generated by the laser or IPL is most commonly described as a rubber band snapping against the skin or mild stinging. Most individuals are able to tolerate this for the short duration of the  treatment. You may have a sunburn-type sensation in the treatment area for several hours afterwards. Topical anesthetics are available to decrease any discomfort from the laser treatment. If a topical anesthetic is desired, please discuss this with your dermatologist.
