What is Radiofrequency (RF)-Microneedling?

RF-Microneedling procedure is a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production. RF energy is delivered at various depths in the skin through these fine needles which induces collagen regeneration while sparing the skin’s surface. The addition of RF to the microneedling procedure helps to further stimulate the body’s natural collagen and healing processes revealing firmer, younger-looking, rejuvenated skin.

Which are the indications for RF-Microneedling?

RF-microneedling is used for improvement of photoaging/photodamage such as uneven skin tone/texture, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, large pores, stretch marks, and atrophic scars such as acne scars. RF-microneedling can be easily combined with other minimally invasive procedures such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to enhance the cosmetic outcomes.

What should I expect during treatment?

Skin will be cleansed and a topical anesthetic ointment will be applied to your skin before treatment. Other forms of anesthesia, or pain management, may also be used. Still, a prickling sensation can be felt during the procedure. Mild discomfort and/or pain may be experienced, although much less often. The procedure takes 30-60 minutes depending on the type of required treatment and anatomic site.

What should I expect after treatment?

Immediately after the procedure the skin may feel sensitive/hot and look mildly red and swollen. Heat sensation will last up to a couple of hours. There may be a grid-like pattern. Swelling resolves typically within 2-3 days but redness may take longer to fade. You may apply ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort after the procedure.
